Embracing the Messy Fun

Last Thursday, it was Adam's turn to get a night out and I was on bedtime solo.  The weather was gorgeous and everyone was in good spirits so I loaded them up for an outing to the playground after dinner.  Oliver happily rode his bike in the elementary school parking lot and Alex and Lukas played on the slide.  After chasing Alex away from a big puddle 10 times, I stopped fighting it and just let him have fun in the puddle. None of the other moms were too thrilled with me - now they had to keep their kids out of the puddle too. What kid could resist when they saw what fun Alex was having!   Of course, they had to go DIRECTLY into the tub as soon as we got home.  They were wet all the way up to their waists!  Oh Alex!

When you are a toddler, you can find joy in something as simple as the box the diapers arrived in!

Both boys are learning to walk down the steps face forward.  It's very nerve wracking to watch!  Alex is a bit steadier than Lukas.  This video was taken at the Nest play area.

POTD: This is how we roll

Is there a cooler way to commute when you are four?

For about a month now, Oliver has been riding his bike back and forth to school days the weather is cooperative.  He is doing surprisingly well for his age.  It's not easy navigating the potholes, manhole covers, and wonky sidewalk surfaces, not to mention cars and pedestrians.  You really have to concentrate to be a city bicycle rider! He loves to pedal ahead of me and is great about stopping well before the next intersection to wait for me to catch up.  I do still need to keep a close eye on him in the intersections.   "Pedal, pedal!!!", I need to remind him, or he won't make it back up the incline onto the sidewalk.  While he's getting better, he's still not good enough for me to allow him to ride his bike when I have the babies in the stroller.  I can't exactly let go of the stroller to grab him!  He's got his scooter that he happily rides if Karla or I am taking all three out.  And we just brought the Kettler two-seater tricycle back from the bungalow, so the babies will start having more fun out in the city too! 

Veggie Project 2014

I've been container gardening for some time. My involvement with the CSA and the Junior League Farm Explorer Mobile Garden has only furthered my interest in gardening.  The only drawback to city-living to me is that I can't have a great big veggie garden out back!

Oliver helped this year.  He was most excited to help plant the swiss chard seeds, which one week later are already starting to sprout!  The babies came to investigate our project before they went down for their nap. 

From Left to Right, we have peppers and cucumbers, tomato plants, swiss chard (front), lots and lots of basil, peas, an assorted lettuce I made at Linvilla a few weeks ago, and some herbs.  

Easter in Montville

We went to Montville for Easter.  The boys were thankfully more well-behaved than the previous weekend, when we had been in Jersey for Oliver's birthday, but that bar was set pretty low!

POTD: Toddler Boy Heaven

I had the kids solo tonight and after two dreary, cold, wet days, I was motivated to take them outside for some fun in between dinner and bedtime. We went to the elementary school just two blocks away and while Oliver happily rode his bike in the parking lot, the lil guys played on the slide. After about the tenth time I had to intercept Alex who kept making a beeline for one of the puddles in the parking lot, I gave up and decided to just let them have some fun. Alex and Lukas had a blast! Of course I has to stick them in the tub the moment we got home!
