Lena and I took the kids on a "holiday adventure" on Friday. We went to Franklin Square to see their holiday lights. I had really wanted to do this last year, since it is on every list of fun spots to hit in the city over the holidays.
Oliver was being super whiny and we would have left him at home had the option existed. Alex and Lukas were tickled pink to be riding the bus, something they don't get to do very often. By this age, Oliver was already a frequent bus rider to daycare. As the boys get less reliant on the stroller, we will be able to take them on bus outings more often, hopefully by Spring. The bus ride was likely the highlight for Lukas, who delighted in announcing what we were passing, chatting up other passengers and happily singing his ABCs. If only Happy-Lukas would join us at home more often!

We got to Franklin Square just before 4pm, when the holiday festivities first opened. We didn't have to deal with crowds, and it wasn't chilly yet, but it was still fairly light out, so it was a bit anti-climatic. We let the kids run around a bit, took a ride on the carousel, and killed time until the first light show happened at 4:30pm. The Square also had a food/drink tent set-up, so a TV of the upcoming light display and some hotdogs helped us stall.
The light show was set to holiday music and the lights all flashed/pulsed to the music. It was sweet, but I don't know if it is worth the trek to see again. They had a few vendors and food trucks, but not nearly to the degree that the German-inspired Christmas Market in Center City has. We let the boys share nutella-banana (yum) cupcakes to keep them entertained so Lena and I could snap some photos as it got darker. Very pretty!
