For weeks now, Oliver has been telling us that he wants to drive a firetruck. Most often, this occurs when we are in the car and pass a firetruck on the road. My answer was always "Mommy doesn't know where we can do that, but I will try and find out". Finally, I asked on a local Mommy-discussion board and was pleasantly surprised to learn about a "Touch a Truck" fundraiser happening in the 'burbs not far outside the city. Oliver was excited for days (thankfully, it didn't rain, or we would have had a real problem explaining why he would have to wait an additional week).
Before we left the house, Oliver asked if he could wear his Fire Chief outfit that he had gotten as a Big Brother present when we brought the twins home from the hospital. The volunteers of the event just couldn't get enough of him. It was adorable. Adam and I were surprised there weren't other kids dressed up as firemen too. We were a bit bummed that they didn't have a police are or ambulance for the kids to climb into. Oliver enjoyed the firetrucks, but wasn't interested in the dump truck or school bus, which really surprised me. We read "Cailou and the school bus" and he's always asking when he can ride a school bus. In typical Oliver-fashion, it was tough to tell exactly how much fun he was having by looking at him.

Last weekend, before we headed to Jersey, Adam and I hit up the Main Line Moms of Multiple's (MOM) consignment sale. I've become a consignment junkie and Adam has come around to enjoying it too. It's a great place to pick up toys for the kids and baby stuff that has a short shelf life, as well as some clothes and shoes. This time, we walked away with a Melissa & Doug wooden farm house, some clothes, a kids CD, an activity thing for the babies and THE coolest thing for Oliver... a Tonka Firetruck (we got it for $25 -- retail $69!)
Adam made the mistake after the last sale of giving Oliver a bunch of toys all at once. In the meantime, we have wised up and parcel them out over a couple of weeks. Adam has been itching to give him this firetruck since we got home. I knew we couldn't do it after work, because bedtime would be a nightmare (that's just cruel giving a kid a cool toy and then sending him off to bed!). Adam wanted to do it when they first woke up in the morning (he takes early shift), but I insisted on participating - afterall, it was my find! Adam was downright antsy waiting for me to get up this morning. It was cute! It was as if it was Christmas day in this house today. Oliver played with that firetruck all day and made us drag it up from the basement, into his room, and back down to the first floor. He couldn't be without it!
